Breakell Racing enjoyed a phenomenal race-winning debut in the Masters Endurance Legends as part of the prestigious Silverstone Festival event this past weekend (26/27 August), as Bradley Ellis and Andy Cummings secured a class victory in the Morgan-Pescarolo LMP2 car.
The weekend marked the team’s first race outing with the iconic prototype, which contested the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours in period. Following an extensive restoration and rebuild by the team in recent months, it made its return to race action as part of the Masters Endurance Legends grid.
Bringing together a sensational grid of more than 40 cars covering LMP1, LMP2, LMP3 and GT categories, the series was a key attraction for the Silverstone Festival as huge crowds lined the Grand Prix circuit for one of the biggest and most prestigious historic racing events in the world.
With the talented duo of Ellis and Cummings behind the wheel, the Lancashire team got off to a fantastic start on Friday as rapid lap times during qualifying netted them a brilliant G2/P2 class pole position in a hugely impressive fifth place overall.
Cummings started behind the wheel for the opening race and put in a strong stint to keep the team firmly in podium contention before Ellis took over. The hugely experienced and successful racer produced a phenomenal performance, as he climbed up the order.
Lapping up to three seconds a lap faster than the drivers ahead of him heading into the closing stages, he produced a thrilling final few laps as he hunted down the class leader. Eventually, he overtook him on the final lap to secure a memorable class victory for the Breakell Racing team on their debut.
Ellis produced another brilliant drive in the closing minutes of race two as he once again built on a great opening stint from Cummings. While he would miss out on doubling their win tally, his determined charge forward netted them a second place class finish to complete a dream weekend.
