Breakell Racing have continued their fantastic season in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with podium-filled visits to Thruxton (27/28 August) and Silverstone (24/25 September).
Wes Pearce has superbly continued his podium run to 15 in a row to maintain his title challenge in the G56 Am class. He scored third and second place finishes at Thruxton, as the new Ginetta G56 GT4 made its first outing at the circuit and duly produced top speeds of over 150mph.
More joy came during the visit to Silverstone and its short, fast National layout. Finishing second on three occasions during a bumper weekend of racing, he also crucially netted a sixth class win of the season so far to ensure he has a 38 point advantage going in to the season finale at Brands Hatch (08/09 October).
After withdrawing from the Thruxton weekend after qualifying for personal reasons, Reece Somerfield made a triumphant return to race action at Silverstone with a hat-trick of podium finishes to take his overall tally in the championship to 16.
After finishing in a superb second place in the opening race, Somerfield produced a pair of characteristically fast starts to lead at the start of both of Sunday’s two races. While race wins would unfortunately slip from his grasp, he added a pair of third place results to his collection.
James Breakell – Team Principal: “We couldn’t be happier with how our last two weekends in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup has gone. To pick up nine podium finishes from nine opportunities between Wes and Reece is a level of consistency we’ve been striving for since joining the series.
“After missing a few weekends, it was fantastic to have Reece back and to see him twice leading the races was a real thrill. Wes has been brilliant these last couple of rounds and his speed and consistency has put him in a great position in the points heading into the season finale.”
The team’s busy run of Ginetta racing also included the long-awaited return to action for Leo Karavasili in the Ginetta GT Academy. No less than 13 weeks on from the championship’s last outing at Oulton Park, it was back for three races around the stunning Brands Hatch Grand Prix track (10/11 September).
With extremely limited previous experience of the Kent circuit, it was a case of learning on the go for Karavasili. The racing novice, who burst on to the scene with pole positions in the first two outings of the season, didn’t let that faze him and qualified a competitive seventh on the grid.
After a mechanical failure out of the team’s control robbed Karavasili of a potential top six finish in race one, the 22-year-old talent moved up to fifth at the halfway point of race two and survived a last lap incident to finish there at the chequered flag.
Karavasili brought the weekend to a close with another strong performance in the final race, pulling off some good overtaking manoeuvres as he finished seventh. Those results mean he’s right in contention for a top five points finish heading into the season finale at Donington Park next month (15/16 October).
James Breakell – Team Principal: “It unfortunately didn’t end up being the weekend we’d hoped for with Leo. A lot of the drivers had a big head start on him in terms of experience on the circuit and he faced an uphill struggle to get on to terms with them.
“After his brilliant results in the opening events, it’s easy to forget that Leo was a complete novice heading into this season and therefore it won’t always go his way. His talent is clear to see though and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do at Donington Park.”
